I mostly eat vegetable/fruits everyday but my friend says I'm not having enough calories because a cup of broccoli is only about 30 calories, I usually eat like 2 cups a meal and thats about 60 calories only, and i snack on bananas, etc which would be 150 calories. But I eat a lot of them a day but its sometimes would be around 500 or 600.. Isn't that bad? I mean, I don't starve myself because vegetables/fruits easily full me up with just two cups, etc. I don't see a problem besides the fact that its not enough calories. :( Ugh, why does this have to be so hard.
I'm 15, 5'2, 116 pounds, female.
Answer on Question about vegetable/fruit diet?
If you don't eat enough calories, your body goes into starvation mode, STORING those calories.
You don't need to lose weight anyways, but here goes:
Main thing is to get all of the calories/nutrients you can. Does your vegetable/fruit diet exclude milk too? If not, drink plenty, it's fine for you with decent calories. Other than that, eat canned beans (garbanzo, cannelinni, black, refried, etc). It contains a ton of protein (more than 20g per can) and nutrients for nearly 400 calories. Veggie/fruit diet isn't just eating apples, bananas and broccoli. Beans, milk, breads, noodles, peanut butter (and pb crackers), potatoes, lots of stuff are allowed. Make sure you eat at least 1500 calories a day, preferably 2000.
Eat 1750, for example. Your body likely burns about 1500 of it by just being alive and walking around. Swim fairly vigorously (1) and you can burn nearly 600 calories. That leaves 350 calories needed to sustain the action. If you aren't eating enough to handle that, your body turns to your fat reserves to supply it's stored-up calories to keep going- which is why fat exists in the first place. If you do so every day, you can burn about 2100 calories a week- 10500 a month. With a pound of fat approximately containing 3500 calories, you've burned exactly 3 pounds in a month. Most possible, without it being dangerous, is 15lbs in a month- if you started as OBESE. 1-2lbs a week is great. And the beauty of a veggie/fruit diet is that you won't easily starve- eat a LOT of filling foods for little calories, and you can feel full for less calories than most would eating normally, making loss that much easier.
Hope I helped, good luck!
