What permits do I need for living In Italy for less than 3 months?

I'm going to be traveling to Italy and I'm going to get an apartment there for he duration of my stay (90 days). I know I don't need a visa, but what about a residence permit or anything else that I might need? Thanks

Answer on What permits do I need for living In Italy for less than 3 months?

You do not need a residence permit for a stay of up to 90 days. If you enter Italy from Canada you will get a uniform Schengen stamp on your pasport which will document that you have properly registered your presence in Italy.

If you arrive in Italy from other Schengen states (i.e. France, Spain) you should report your presence to the local Questura (central police station in the province) filling out the relevant form within 8 days of your arrival in Italy.

For foreigners staying in a hotel, evidence of their presence is the registration form submitted to the hotel management and signed by the foreign guests on arrival. The hotel will provide a copy of this form to the foreign guest who can show it to police officers, if requested.

Added:
If you rent an appartment you must register your presence at the Italian community in which you plan to stay for up to three months.
